HABITS OF JESUS, MARCH 12 – APRIL 4

Daily posts to learn more about how Jesus modeled His life for us. For 21 days leading up to Easter, explore the habits of Jesus that kept Him hungering for His Father and continuing His mission. Even though He was separated from Him on earth and about to be separated in a different way by His death on the cross, He was faithful and believed in His resurrection.

Coming Next: FASTING IN THE BIBLE, APRIL 8 – MAY 29

Posts every Wednesday and Friday to learn about fasting in the Bible. We will review the whole Bible, exploring what happened when fasting was a special focus for the people of Israel, in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Keeping in mind the way that Jesus taught us to fast, we will find new ways for us to enact a spiritual habit of fasting in our modern lives.

Habits of Jesus Day 1: The Lord’s Prayer

The disciples noticed that Jesus prayed when He was alone. They asked Him how they could make His habit their own. The Lord’s Prayer. Jesus said, pray this way: “Our Father, who is in heaven, holy be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us…

Habits of Jesus Day 19: Beyond Easter

There is sadness and pain in reviewing Jesus’ ordeal on the cross. There is joy in the empty tomb. There is confidence in His ascension to heaven. But our highest heavenly perspective comes from walking with Jesus toward the cross, understanding His resurrection from the tomb from this side of eternity, knowing He reunites with…

  • Habits of Jesus Day 18: Foundational Truth

Habits of Jesus Day 18: Foundational Truth

Jesus said, “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart builder who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured…

  • Habits of Jesus Day 17: Overcoming

Habits of Jesus Day 17: Overcoming

Recorded in the book of John, at the Last Supper, Jesus takes a lot of time to speak with His disciples about upcoming things (John 13-17). One of the themes is that no matter what kind of troubles will be coming, He has already overcome them: His body will be resurrected to heaven, He will…

  • Habits of Jesus Day 16: Helping the Poor

Habits of Jesus Day 16: Helping the Poor

The poor are in our lives. They may be poor in money, poor in spirit or poor in opportunity. They are often oppressed and taken advantage of. They live in every country around the world. Zaccheus was an oppressor. Tax collectors of that day often took more tax than was owed and that extra amount…

  • Habits of Jesus Day 15: Loving the Sick

Habits of Jesus Day 15: Loving the Sick

Jesus healed the dead body of Lazarus and he came out of the grave alive. That was a miracle! But even more touching was how Jesus loved Lazarus as a brother and wept for him and for his sisters Mary and Martha. Martha and Mary sent word to Jesus, saying, “Lord, he whom you love…

  • Habits of Jesus Day 14: Justice

Habits of Jesus Day 14: Justice

Justice matters to Jesus! Therefore, justice matters to us. Justice, for the Three-In-One God we worship, was not described here by Jesus as a priestly program for the poor, a special tithe to build a stronger prison or a rabbinical lecture to be attended by the elite elected leaders of the moment. “For I was…

  • Habits of Jesus Day 13: Let Go

Habits of Jesus Day 13: Let Go

Jesus didn’t let anything get in the way of His path to the cross: not family, nor disciples, nor pressure from the Pharisees, nor the recognition of the physical pain ahead. His desire was that we also let go and take on His habit of following the will of the Father, wherever that takes us.…

  • Habits of Jesus Day 12: Be Family

Habits of Jesus Day 12: Be Family

Who do we consider to be family in our lives? Jesus had a family He grew up with (Luke 8:19), the twelve disciples (Mark 3:16) and many other disciples (Luke 10:1). He treated them all as part of His family and as part of God’s family. We can grow in the roles God has designed…

  • Habits of Jesus Day 11: Humility and Love

Habits of Jesus Day 11: Humility and Love

Be humble, like Christ. Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty…
