30 DAY FAST, SEPTEMBER 1 – SEPTEMBER 30 (Join any time, see how to prepare below.)

Early morning posts every day: 30 days of fasting does not mean you do not eat for 30 days! A fast can be many things. Normally it is a plan to deny yourself some kind of food or something that is habitual. You want the lack of it to be noticed regularly by your body and your mind. And you want to experience a sort of hunger for it. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. A fast, by design, will turn your thoughts toward God when the moment comes that you say No. These posts will help you prepare and focus on how He will spiritually provide what you need, in the moment and beyond.

Evening posts every day: Personal posts from me that share my own daily experience of fasting, encourage tasting the sweetness of our Lord before sleep, and prepare us for an ever deeper renewal in the morning.

  • Marks of a Disciple 9: Integrity

Marks of a Disciple 9: Integrity

Integrity is the application of purity and righteousness. It is when your inner character and outer actions match. It is a quality that intimates doing anything other than what is right is not an option. There are high boundaries and a high level of follow-through. Sustained evidence is desired. A person of integrity is someone you…

  • Marks of a Disciple 8: Focus

Marks of a Disciple 8: Focus

If compassion is fueled by spirituality and humility, focus is the engine that keeps these four marks of a disciple moving on. Paul compares the life of a disciple to athletic events. He says: Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in…

  • Marks of a Disciple 7: Compassion

Marks of a Disciple 7: Compassion

If a disciple exhibits the first two marks of a disciple: spirituality and humility; he will be compelled to do something with that. A disciple is not only called to go but to go out. There are many opportunities for us to go, and the key mark of a successful mission or ministry is our…

  • Marks of a Disciple 6: God’s Harvest

    Marks of a Disciple 6: God’s Harvest

Now in those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.” The prophet Isaiah spoke of him, “He is the voice calling from the wilderness for all to prepare the way of the LORD.” John himself had a garment of camel’s hair,…

  • Marks of a Disciple 5: Spirituality

Marks of a Disciple 5: Spirituality

Michael Haykin says, “True spirituality is intimately bound up with the Holy Spirit and His work.” A disciple must be marked with the Holy Spirit and filled to its fullness (Eph 1:22-23). Things happen around this person that cannot be explained logically. People who do not know God suspect there is something different in how this…

  • Marks of a Disciple 4: Filling

Marks of a Disciple 4: Filling

We have fasted so that we recognize how God longs to feed us and fill us from His generosity! He wants to fill us with things that give us strength and that will fully satisfy our thirst. In His world, the sweet stream is always running within our reach. His food is full of eternal…

  • Marks of a Disciple 3: Humility

Marks of a Disciple 3: Humility

“Humility, the place of entire dependence on God, is, from the very nature of things, the first duty and the highest virtue of the creature, and the root of every virtue.” Michael J. Gorman With humility consider one another as more important than yourselves, not looking out for your own interests, but for the interests…

  • Marks of a Disciple 2: Hunger

Marks of a Disciple 2: Hunger

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for right living, for they will be satisfied. Matthew 5: 6 Jesus taught what is known as the Beatitudes or the Blessings, to start off His Sermon on the Mount. I love that He began this teaching by defining what it means to follow Him in such a…

  • Marks of a Disciple 1: Who is a Disciple?

Marks of a Disciple 1: Who is a Disciple?

“We are here to live holy, loving, lowly lives.” Amy Carmichael Disciples are important. Here are the last words of Jesus, called The Great Commission, that were spoken to them: All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name…

  • New Habits 8: Sabbath Rest

    New Habits 8: Sabbath Rest

We want to follow our new habit with fervor and faith, but also with the same grace toward ourselves that God gives us and with an understanding of the role that rest plays in growing our spiritual life. When you plant a garden, there are many different places in the process where letting the soil…
