30 DAY FAST, SEPTEMBER 1 – SEPTEMBER 30 (Join any time, see how to prepare below.)

Early morning posts every day: 30 days of fasting does not mean you do not eat for 30 days! A fast can be many things. Normally it is a plan to deny yourself some kind of food or something that is habitual. You want the lack of it to be noticed regularly by your body and your mind. And you want to experience a sort of hunger for it. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. A fast, by design, will turn your thoughts toward God when the moment comes that you say No. These posts will help you prepare and focus on how He will spiritually provide what you need, in the moment and beyond.

Evening posts every day: Personal posts from me that share my own daily experience of fasting, encourage tasting the sweetness of our Lord before sleep, and prepare us for an ever deeper renewal in the morning.

  • Hunger for the Harvest Day 8: True Thirst

Hunger for the Harvest Day 8: True Thirst

When we fast, we want to pay less attention to what we are giving up and more attention to God. We want our hunger and thirst for something physical to be replaced with a renewed hunger and thirst for something spiritual. A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me…

  • Hunger for the Harvest Day 7: Full

Hunger for the Harvest Day 7: Full

We are fasting so that we recognize how God longs to feed us from His heritage, the land of milk and honey (Isaiah 58:14)! He has created a promised land of true Life for us. It is full of things that are good to feast on, that give us strength and that will fully satisfy…

  • Hunger for the Harvest Day 6: Satisfied

Hunger for the Harvest Day 6: Satisfied

Jesus taught what is known as the Beatitudes or the Blessings to start off His Sermon on the Mount. I love that He began this teaching by defining what it means to follow Him in such a positive way, not in a condemning way! The follower He describes is humble spiritually, connecting with those who…

Hunger for the Harvest Day 5: True Hunger

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted for forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He…

  • Hunger for the Harvest Day 4: How Not to Fast

Hunger for the Harvest Day 4: How Not to Fast

You say, “Why have we fasted and You have not been impressed? Why have we been hard on ourselves and You have not even noticed?” I, the LORD, say, “Because you are fasting to please yourselves and even while you are fasting, you oppress your workers. What good is fasting if it ends in quarreling…

  • Hunger for the Harvest Day 3: How Does Fasting Work?

Hunger for the Harvest Day 3: How Does Fasting Work?

We can learn a few things about how fasting works from Jesus’ experience in the wilderness that will make our own fast successful: Then Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, was led into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted and eaten nothing for forty days and forty nights,…

  • Hunger for the Harvest Day 1: A Spiritual Habit of Fasting

Hunger for the Harvest Day 1: A Spiritual Habit of Fasting

My post-COVID-19 journey led me to stop, as it did so many others, and God led me to meditate on Isaiah 58. It initiated an intimate dialogue with God about fasting and how this spiritual habit adds to His kingdom and His harvest (Matthew 9:37-38)! Let’s dig into this passage together and my hope is…

  • Fasting in the Bible Day 16: The New Fast

Fasting in the Bible Day 16: The New Fast

Then the disciples of John came to Him, asking, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?” And Jesus said to them, “The attendants of the bridegroom cannot mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them, can they? But the days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then…

  • Fasting in the Bible Day 15: It’s a Secret

Fasting in the Bible Day 15: It’s a Secret

Jesus, Sermon on the Mount: Beware of practicing good deeds before men to be admired by them, for you will lose your reward from your Father who is in heaven. When you give to those who are in need, do not blow your own trumpet! This is what hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets.…
