HABITS OF JESUS, MARCH 12 – APRIL 4

Daily posts to learn more about how Jesus modeled His life for us. For 21 days leading up to Easter, explore the habits of Jesus that kept Him hungering for His Father and continuing His mission. Even though He was separated from Him on earth and about to be separated in a different way by His death on the cross, He was faithful and believed in His resurrection.

Coming Next: FASTING IN THE BIBLE, APRIL 8 – MAY 29

Posts every Wednesday and Friday to learn about fasting in the Bible. We will review the whole Bible, exploring what happened when fasting was a special focus for the people of Israel, in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Keeping in mind the way that Jesus taught us to fast, we will find new ways for us to enact a spiritual habit of fasting in our modern lives.

Fasting in the Bible Day 3: Jehoshaphat

After this, the people of Moab, Ammon and the Meunites came to make war against Jehoshaphat. Some people reported to Jehoshaphat, “A vast army from Edom, beyond the Dead Sea, is marching against you. And they are already in En Gedi.“ Jehoshaphat was afraid and turned his attention to seek the LORD. He proclaimed a fast and the people…

Fasting in the Bible Day 2: Samuel

Samuel spoke to all the people of Israel, “If you want to return to the LORD with all your heart, remove your idols of foreign gods and images of Ashtoreth from among you. Direct your hearts to the LORD and serve Him alone, then He will deliver you from the hand of the Philistines.” So the people of Israel removed their…

Fasting in the Bible Day 1: Moses

When I went up on the mountain to receive the stone tablets of the covenant, which the LORD had made for you, I remained on the mountain forty days and nights. I ate no bread and drank no water. At the end of the forty days and nights, the LORD gave me the two stone tablets of the covenant written by His…

Habits of Jesus Day 21: Go

God said to Isaiah, Who will go? And Isaiah said, “I’ll go!” In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, sitting on a throne, and the train of His robe was filling the temple. Above Him were worshiping angels, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their…

Habits of Jesus Day 20: It Is Finished!

On the cross, Jesus knew that He completed His mission on earth, literally and figuratively. He proclaimed the good news to the poor, set the oppressed free, and healed the blind, the lame and the diseased (Luke 4: 18-19). He taught and loved His twelve disciples, the faithful, and the unfaithful crowd. He sought out…

Habits of Jesus Day 19: Beyond Easter

There is sadness and pain in reviewing Jesus’ ordeal on the cross. There is joy in the empty tomb. There is confidence in His ascension to heaven. But our highest heavenly perspective comes from walking with Jesus toward the cross, understanding His resurrection from the tomb on this side of eternity, knowing He reunites with…

Habits of Jesus Day 18: Foundational Truth

Jesus said, “These words I speak to you are not incidental additions to your life, homeowner improvements to your standard of living. They are foundational words, words to build a life on. If you work these words into your life, you are like a smart builder who built his house on solid rock. Rain poured…

  • Habits of Jesus Day 17: Overcoming

Habits of Jesus Day 17: Overcoming

Recorded in the book of John, at the Last Supper, Jesus takes a lot of time to speak with His disciples about upcoming things (John 13-17). One of the themes is that no matter what kind of troubles will be coming, He has already overcome them: His body will be resurrected to heaven, He will…

Habits of Jesus Day 16: Helping the Poor

The poor are in our lives. They may be poor in money, poor in spirit, or poor in opportunity. They are often oppressed and taken advantage of. They live in every country around the world, even the United States. Zaccheus was an oppressor. Tax collectors of that day often took more tax than was owed…

Habits of Jesus Day 15: Loving the Sick

Jesus healed the dead body of Lazarus and he came out of the grave alive. That was a miracle! But even more touching was how Jesus loved Lazarus as a brother and wept for him and for his sisters Mary and Martha. Martha and Mary sent word to Jesus, saying, “Lord, he whom you love…
