HABITS OF JESUS, MARCH 12 – APRIL 4

Daily posts to learn more about how Jesus modeled His life for us. For 21 days leading up to Easter, explore the habits of Jesus that kept Him hungering for His Father and continuing His mission. Even though He was separated from Him on earth and about to be separated in a different way by His death on the cross, He was faithful and believed in His resurrection.

Coming Next: FASTING IN THE BIBLE, APRIL 8 – MAY 29

Posts every Wednesday and Friday to learn about fasting in the Bible. We will review the whole Bible, exploring what happened when fasting was a special focus for the people of Israel, in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Keeping in mind the way that Jesus taught us to fast, we will find new ways for us to enact a spiritual habit of fasting in our modern lives.

Day 15: Watered

This is what the LORD, who made you and formed you in the womb, says, “Do not fear, for I will pour water on the thirsty land and streams on the dry ground. I will pour out My Spirit on your children and My blessing on your descendants. They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplars by streams of water.” Some will say, “I am the LORD’s.” Another will write on his hand, “I belong to the LORD.” The LORD Almighty says, “I am the First and I am the Last. There is no God besides Me.” Isaiah 44: 2-6

We are uniquely designed by God. He created us! Our Meyers & Briggs personality type, our DISC personality description and our Enneagram personality framework all reflect the loving way that He put together our spirit and our soul. And whether we are shaped like a pear, an apple, a triangle or a rectangle, we are perfectly formed to inhabit this physical structure we call our body. We are awesome and wonderful and oh so skillfully formed (Psalms 139: 13-15)!

Because He has done this, we can count on God, our Master Gardener (John 15:1). He will nourish us and water us so that we grow into the life He planned for us at the beginning of time. He arranged the events of each day before we were even born (Psalms 139: 16).

Our responsibility is to want our thirsty soul and our languishing spirit to be watered and revived by Him and Him alone. What a beautiful commitment you have made to seek Him in fasting and prayer. Let His water fill you!

He promises that the water He pours out is actually His Spirit and His goodwill! This is way better than any of that fancy ionized, alkaline or electrolyte-infused water that’s on the market now. He infuses us with His power and His love, perfectly balanced for each distinct individual that He formed. And it’s free!

Another response God wants from us is to recognize that we are His and that we belong to Him. And that we may “write” this on our hand. This might refer to an “allowable” tattoo or just a more impermanent, temporary ink. Some verses in the Old Testament forbid tattoos, but mostly because in biblical times they were used as brands for slaves or were pagan symbols. But it is clear that God wants us to recognize Him as our Master and that He not only created us and waters our lives, He owns us. There is no other God we might want to “brand” ourselves with. He is the be-all and the end-all, the first and the last, the alpha and the omega (Revelation 1:8)!

Write your own prayer of thanks for how He is watering you and how you want more:
O God,
