30 DAY FAST, SEPTEMBER 1 – SEPTEMBER 30 (Join any time, see how to prepare below.)

Early morning posts every day: 30 days of fasting does not mean you do not eat for 30 days! A fast can be many things. Normally it is a plan to deny yourself some kind of food or something that is habitual. You want the lack of it to be noticed regularly by your body and your mind. And you want to experience a sort of hunger for it. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. A fast, by design, will turn your thoughts toward God when the moment comes that you say No. These posts will help you prepare and focus on how He will spiritually provide what you need, in the moment and beyond.

Evening posts every day: Personal posts from me that share my own daily experience of fasting, encourage tasting the sweetness of our Lord before sleep, and prepare us for an ever deeper renewal in the morning.

Habits of Jesus Day 4: The Better Thing

We have learned how to pray our Lord’s Prayer and share this with others, but none of this can be effective for us if we don’t approach Him with the right heart (James 5:16) or make sincere arrangements to spend undistracted time with Him.  As Jesus and the disciples were traveling on their way, He…

  • Habits of Jesus Day 3: Put On Love

Habits of Jesus Day 3: Put On Love

Jesus presents love as an enduring habit that we must all wear: love God, love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22: 37-39), and love your enemies (Matthew 5:44). This was a habit He wore the whole time He was on earth, so must we. But how? We all want to put on clothes that are…

Habits of Jesus Day 2: Dawn Patrol

God doesn’t call us to be a light for others without giving us the wherewithal, motivation and soundness of self as a foundation for our own lives. Remembering and noticing and engaging with Him and the works He has prepared for you is always easier when you turn to the newly created dawn and His…

Habits of Jesus Day 1: The Lord’s Prayer

The disciples noticed that Jesus prayed when He was alone. They asked Him how they could make His habit their own. The Lord’s Prayer. Jesus said, pray this way: “Our Father, who is in heaven, holy be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us…

Planting Seeds Day 18: Seeds of Influence

The Great Commission: The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some of them doubted. Then Jesus came to them, and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples…

  • Planting Seeds Day 17: Insider or Outsider?

Planting Seeds Day 17: Insider or Outsider?

Planting seeds and traditional farming most often takes place outside the confines of a frantic city life. It is an outside and an outsider, lonely occupation. It might be a simpler home life, as it often only depends upon a family and a few hires to make it work. But the results are tangible and…

  • Planting Seeds Day 16: Shelter Them

Planting Seeds Day 16: Shelter Them

People who need shelter often have many other issues to solve. Jesus proposes a radical response to a neighbor who needs help: The man asked, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus replied, “A man was going from Jerusalem to Jericho who was stripped, beaten and left half dead by robbers. A priest and a Levite man…

  • Planting Seeds Day 15: Loving the Homeless

Planting Seeds Day 15: Loving the Homeless

Homelessness is not new, but we often try to fix it with modern, systemic solutions. Maybe there is another solution. Planting seeds of help for the homeless could start with seeing them with God’s eyes of love. In the days of affliction and homelessness, Jerusalem remembers all the treasures that were hers which have now…

  • Planting Seeds Day 14: Feeding the Hungry

Planting Seeds Day 14: Feeding the Hungry

Planting seeds of God’s care in people’s hearts may grow from the soil of fullness in their belly. And especially when they feel a connection to the person who plants and fills them with God’s happy Word. Jesus withdrew to a secluded place, and when the people heard, they followed Him on foot from the…

  • Planting Seeds Day 13: Covering Shame

Planting Seeds Day 13: Covering Shame

God calls us to plant seeds of love that include His words that free us all from shame and might include actual clothing. The LORD God said to Adam, “You shall not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for you will certainly die.” … Then the LORD God said, “It…
