30 DAY FAST, SEPTEMBER 1 – SEPTEMBER 30 (Join any time, see how to prepare below.)

Early morning posts every day: 30 days of fasting does not mean you do not eat for 30 days! A fast can be many things. Normally it is a plan to deny yourself some kind of food or something that is habitual. You want the lack of it to be noticed regularly by your body and your mind. And you want to experience a sort of hunger for it. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. A fast, by design, will turn your thoughts toward God when the moment comes that you say No. These posts will help you prepare and focus on how He will spiritually provide what you need, in the moment and beyond.

Evening posts every day: Personal posts from me that share my own daily experience of fasting, encourage tasting the sweetness of our Lord before sleep, and prepare us for an ever deeper renewal in the morning.

  • Fast Day 13: Inner Change

    Fast Day 13: Inner Change

John the Baptist was identified as the first prophet in 400 years and he dressed the part. He wore camel hair sackcloth, a coarse and loosely woven garment, which represented a special prophetic call for personal and national repentance. But His message and his demeanor were one of humility. He was there to proclaim someone…

  • Fast Night 12: Clutter

    Fast Night 12: Clutter

Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. Col 3:13b Don’t let the sun go down on your anger. Eph 4:26 Settling into sleep is a perfect opportunity to review your day and where you might need to forgive someone. If it has been a day of fasting and seeking God, you especially…

  • Fast Day 12: New Clothing

    Fast Day 12: New Clothing

We all want to put on clothes that are well-fitting, attractive, serviceable and appropriate! And we would never knowingly let our children leave the house with dirty or torn clothes that are too small, unless they are making mud pies or building a treehouse! But what about how we clothe ourselves spiritually? That old life…

  • Fast Night 11: A.S.K.

    Fast Night 11: A.S.K.

So I say to you: keep on asking, and it will be given to you, keep on seeking and you will find, and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:9 In this parable Jesus tells us to keep on asking (A), keep on seeking (S), and keep on knocking…

  • Fast Day 11: Asking

    Fast Day 11: Asking

Prayer, at its root, is talking to God. But when we really need something to change, it becomes an appeal, a petition, a request, a plea and an entreaty. In what situation might you shamelessly persist to ask God for something? Would it need to be something that you or other people you care about…

  • Fast Day 10: Surprising Delight

    Fast Day 10: Surprising Delight

Delight might be hard to describe, but we know when we see it or when we feel it! It’s not just joy or happiness, but there is an element of surprise in it. It is an “all of a sudden” feeling. A spark of pleasure we didn’t expect. We are astonished in a positive way.…

  • Fast Night 9: Thinking

    Fast Night 9: Thinking

If anything is worthy of praise — think about these things and put them into practice. Then the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4: 8-9 Nighttime during our fast is an excellent time to think about what is worthy of praise. Since we are tired and in a more relaxed frame of…

  • Fast Day 9: Renewal

    Fast Day 9: Renewal

Sunrise is the herald of a new day. A day to freshly experience His compassion and faithfulness (Lamentations 3:22-23). Another day of life to experience His renewed physical creation. And a brand-new day to acknowledge His spiritual re-creation in us (2 Corinthians 5:17). And do not be conformed to the patterns of this world, but…

  • Fast Day 8: Freedom

    Fast Day 8: Freedom

As citizens we stand for the freedom and rights of humans. As Christians we stand for a different kind of freedom and responsibility. This is not a freedom to do whatever we want within the law, but a freedom to live life in the light of Christ. We have a firm confidence that we are…

  • Fast Night 7: Review

    Fast Night 7: Review

Delight in the Lord and He will satisfy the desires of your heart. Spiritual rest at night might start before you lie down in bed or before you close your eyes. Ignatius suggests a review of the day, noting when you were vitally aware of the presence of God during your fast. He suggests recording…
