HUNGER FOR THE HARVEST, JUNE 3 AUGUST 21

Posts every Wednesday and Friday to learn about the connection between fasting and His harvest. We will explore together how fasting increases your hunger for God, creating a position of humility that thirsts for holy intimacy and holy maturity. Helping others and planting seeds will become a natural and a supernatural response. Jesus is the Lord of the Harvest, He will use you in the lives of others to further His kingdom.

COMING NEXT: 30 DAY FAST AND PREPARATION, AUGUST 24 – SEPTEMBER 30

Posts every day. 30 days of fasting does not mean you do not eat for 30 days! The preparation posts will help you identify which meals or what things God may be asking you to abstain from for 30 days. A fast can be many things. Normally it is a plan to deny yourself some kind of food or something that is habitual. You want the lack of it to be noticed regularly by your body and your mind. And you want to experience a sort of hunger for it. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. A fast, by design, will turn your thoughts toward God when the moment comes that you say No. These posts will help you focus on how He will spiritually provide what you need, in the moment and beyond.

Honor the Hungry Day 3: Passion

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. (2 Cor 1: 3-4)

Instead of just giving to a ministry that pops up in your day, you might consider your passions and ask God to help you find a way to use that to honor the hungry (or the oppressed, homeless, unclothed, or needy relative).

Here is an alphabetized list of possible passions from http://www.freeshapetest.com. Often, people feel passionate about helping others with an issue that they have gone through and God has helped them overcome and comforted them. I have added some Bible verses to help you see God’s view of these issues. Unfortunately, someone who has gone through any one of these issues, through no fault of their own in many cases, may end up spiralling into poverty and hunger:

  1. Abortion/sanctity of life (Psalm 139:13)
  2. Abuse/violence (Psalm 11:5)
  3. Alcoholism (1 Cor 6:12)
  4. At-risk children (Col 3:21)
  5. Compulsive behavior (2 Tim 1:7)
  6. Disabilities (Lev 19:14)
  7. Drug abuse/recovery (Rom 5: 3-5)
  8. Educational (Prof 9:9)
  9. Financial stewardship (1 Peter 5:2)
  10. Health/fitness (1 Cor 6:19-20)
  11. Homelessness (Isaiah 58:7)
  12. Marriage/family issues (Song of Solomon 8:6-7)
  13. Parenting (Deut 6:6-7)
  14. Policy/politics (Matt 22:21)
  15. Poverty/hunger (Prov 19:17)
  16. Spiritual laziness (Prov 13:4)
  17. Other (if your passion is not listed!): _____________________

How has God comforted you?

What crisis, trouble or issue has God helped you rise from?

What might you say to someone who is dealing with the same thing?

God of All Mercies, You have comforted me and helped me to survive and thrive. Show me how I might comfort and help someone else. I know I am not perfect in this area, but I ask for Your humility to be transparent and say the things I wish had been said to me, at the time. Your love is sustaining and powerful. Amen.
