HABITS OF JESUS, MARCH 12 – APRIL 4

Daily posts to learn more about how Jesus modeled His life for us. For 21 days leading up to Easter, explore the habits of Jesus that kept Him hungering for His Father and continuing His mission. Even though He was separated from Him on earth and about to be separated in a different way by His death on the cross, He was faithful and believed in His resurrection.

Coming Next: FASTING IN THE BIBLE, APRIL 8 – MAY 29

Posts every Wednesday and Friday to learn about fasting in the Bible. We will review the whole Bible, exploring what happened when fasting was a special focus for the people of Israel, in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Keeping in mind the way that Jesus taught us to fast, we will find new ways for us to enact a spiritual habit of fasting in our modern lives.

Marks of a Disciple 11: Humility Questions

This questionnaire is designed for you to self-assess behaviors that show at what level you are taking actions, making choices, and attaining knowledge that characterizes a disciple of Christ.

Ask yourself these questions and gain clarity regarding your path of growth in humility.

This is not a test! There is no grade! There is no one to compare yourself to!

Take note of the questions that you might answer Never/Unlikely/or Unaware. Pray through them and identify areas where God might ask you to focus and grow next year. In the same way, note your answers of Often/Very Likely/or Very Aware and thank God for the opportunities He has given you to grow in those areas. Posts for the next five days will cover each of the marks of a disciple. You may want to refer to previous posts for more information about each mark.

HUMILITY is a characteristic that can be measured by the extent of the disciple’s surrender to God and participation in the following spiritual disciplines.

Surrender to God: Ephesians 4:2, “With all humility …”

  1. If a standard for recognizing surrender to God is humility, how often do you choose to disadvantage yourself for the advantage of others? Never/Sometimes/Often
  2. When someone treats you badly, how likely is it that you forgive them? Unlikely/Likely/Very Likely
  3. On an average day, how aware are you of the significance of the people you encounter? Unaware/Aware/Very Aware
  4. Which word best describes how you feel when you are humble? Surrendered/Persistent/Wise/Loving/Powerful

Generosity: Matthew 5:42, “Give to him who asks.”

  1. If 10% is the standard for giving to the church, how much do you give in a month, on average? None/Some/10% or More
  2. How likely is it that you love and pray for someone who sees you as an enemy? Unlikely/Likely/Very Likely
  3. Which word best describes how you feel when you give generously? Surrendered/Persistent/Wise/Loving/Powerful

Service: Galatians 5:13, “Serve one another.”

  1. How often have you served someone you don’t know in the past year? Never (0)/Sometimes (1-2)/Often (3-4)
  2. Which word best describes how you feel when you serve others? Surrendered/Persistent/Wise/Loving/Powerful

Identify one action that could support your growth. After completing the questions for each of the five marks, prioritize each action and choose one to commit to for next year.

Dear Jesus, You humbled Yourself for me and I want to be like You. I want to surrender my desire to control, to choose, and to prioritize myself. Help me move with your humble love towards Your children who need help and need You, my true Life. Amen.
