Jesus said, “It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4: 4
I am always hungry in the morning, but after I have had my coffee (which isn’t food, ha!), I can usually delay eating according to the fasting plan that God has given me for that day.
Sometimes the harder thing for me is to feel hungry for God when I go to bed.
For me, God has led me to fast for these thirty days by delaying breakfast every day until I have feasted on His word during my quiet time with Him. But, on two days each week during our fast (different days depending on my schedule), He has led me to abstain from all food (but not water) from sunup to sundown. This is something that I have only tried practicing a few times. Fasting until 5:00 p.m. has been my normal fast, and I mostly eat dinner very early!
This time, I plan to eat only a very small snack after sundown. I want to feel hungry-ish for food when I go to bed, but more than that, to take my fasting experience with me into the night. I want to feel a strong hunger for God when I read or listen to His word by my bed. Lord, give me the joy of clarity and connection with You!
Please do not compare your fast with mine. God can handle us all individually and He does! Each of us is on a personal journey with Him. My hope is that you connect my struggles with yours, and find your own solutions as we journey together, hungering for Him at all times.
