Jesus said to him, “Do you want to get well? Get up, pick up your pallet and walk.” Immediately the man became well and picked up his pallet and began to walk. John 5: 6, 8
God has transformed me and He transforms my whole day when I fast. When I say No! to the delicious pancakes my husband is making for breakfast, No! to the roasted almonds on my desk during my quiet time, and No! to the gum I found when going through business cards, focus on Him somehow becomes a stronger “want to!” So, after this long day of walking through a sunup to sundown fast with Jesus by my side, the opportunity to drop my pallet and lie down also becomes a “want to.” He is still by my side, but instead of speaking in a daytime voice, He is now whispering. Paying attention like a child becomes a sweet intimacy that lulls me to dream of Him.
