If anything is worthy of praise — think about these things and put them into practice. Then the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4: 8-9
Nighttime during our fast is an excellent time to think about what is worthy of praise. Since we are tired and in a more relaxed frame of mind, that thinking may not be the logical process we engage in during the day. And that is good! At night, thinking specifically about different ways that God is praiseworthy and meditating on those things with a repetitive flair is a wonderful way to mentally and emotionally experience the peace He gives. It is a peace that comforts and takes you into your nightly sleep with the knowledge that He is near.
I have been trying different ways to connect with God in the evening for a while now. The important thing is “to connect”! So far, one of my favorite ways is to listen to a chapter in the Bible identify specific things to praise Him for that night. I started in Genesis about a year ago and am now in the Book of John. If you have the YouVersion app, you can listen to someone read any chapter you choose. You might want to try this, too!
Mighty God, Your worth is evident in Your word and I long to hear You each night. Amen.
