So I say to you: keep on asking, and it will be given to you, keep on seeking and you will find, and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you. Luke 11:9
In this parable Jesus tells us to keep on asking (A), keep on seeking (S), and keep on knocking (K). At night before sleep we might not have the energy to ask audaciously. If we have fasted and A.S.K.ed during the day, a one word prayer or a centering prayer at night will communicate the force of our daytime pursuit of God.
In the past few months, I have been creating and using centering prayers from Scripture during my sunup to sundown fasts. When writing a centering prayer, you use a phrase in Scripture or a few words that Holy Spirit speaks to you about. Simply praying those words communicates your whole understanding of the larger Scripture. There is power in praying Scripture, and there is power in praying a centering prayer that reminds you of the ache of your heart for Him and your desire to hear Him answer you.
As you fall asleep, you have another opportunity to pray your centering prayer. He hears and He answers!
Father God, You know my whole heart and the whole meaning of my centering prayer. I give it to You. Amen.
