In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth and everything in it. He created all you see, and all you don’t see. God spoke, “Let us make human beings in Our image, make them reflecting Our nature so they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, and yes, earth itself.” … Then God said, “I’ve given you every sort of seed-bearing plant and every kind of fruit-bearing tree for food … And there it was. He looked over everything He had made; it was so good, so very good! … By the seventh day God had finished His work and He rested. He blessed this day and made it holy because He rested from all the creating He had done … Then God planted a garden in Eden for the man and the woman He had made. He made all kinds of trees grow that were beautiful to look at and good to eat, and He often strolled in the garden to enjoy the evening breeze. From Genesis 1-3 MSG.
The first thing that God did in this life we inhabit in His love was to create a beautiful space for us. We have a wonderful world of beauty with its integrated parts perfectly placed by our Divine Designer. He validated His good work by making time to rest and enjoy it. He specifically created the Garden of Eden for Adam and Eve, to reflect the best of the whole wide world and Himself and He habitually walked through this microcosm of His creation seeking His friends.
As wide and infinite as the universe of planets, galaxies, and the dynamic spaces between that God created appears to us, the inner universe of cells, protons, and quarks reveals another type of space created by Him. He is large enough to fill the empty places of space and yet small enough to fill the empty places in between the substances of this hidden world with, as yet unknown, mysterious powers.
The story of history (His story) is one of this amazing God who wants nothing less than to be in relationship with us. This God is infinitely large, infinitely powerful, and yet can inhabit the most infinitely small places of our life. He cannot help but look for us. We cannot help but find Him.
So making space for God in our lives, our moments, and our commitments is a process of acknowledging that He already inhabits that space and He is there to connect with us. As we journey through these posts that focus on all the ways we may do that, let us not forget this. He already inhabits the space of our lives. He is there to connect with us.
Magnificent Creator, Your love is as immense and precise as You are. Help me to discover and treasure Your precious love everywhere You send me. Prompt me to connect with You through the blood of Jesus, not just the idea of You. Amen.
