FASTING IN THE BIBLE, APRIL 8 – MAY 29

Posts every Wednesday and Friday to learn about fasting in the Bible. We will review the whole Bible, exploring what happened when fasting was a special focus for the people of Israel, in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Keeping in mind the way that Jesus taught us to fast, we will find new ways for us to enact a spiritual habit of fasting in our modern lives.

COMING NEXT: HUNGER FOR THE HARVEST, JUNE 2 AUGUST 21

Posts every Wednesday and Friday to learn about the connection between fasting and His harvest. We will explore together how fasting increases your hunger for God, creating a position of humility that thirsts for holy intimacy and holy maturity. Helping others and planting seeds will become a natural and a supernatural response. Jesus is the Lord of the Harvest, He will use you in the lives of others to further His kingdom.

  • Day 11: Asking

Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You tell him that a friend has arrived for a visit and you have no food to offer him. If your friend answers from his bedroom window and says, “Don’t bother me, the door is locked for the night.…

  • Day 10: Delight

Blessed is the person who delights in the LORD. Psalms 1:1 Delight might be hard to describe, but we know when we see it or when we feel it! It’s not just joy or happiness, but there is an element of surprise in it. It is an “all of a sudden” feeling. A spark of…

  • Day 9: Renewal

And do not be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Romans 12: 2Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable — if anything is excellent or worthy of praise — think about these things. Whatever…

  • Day 8: Freedom

It was for freedom that Christ set us free; so keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of bondage … for you were called to freedom. Make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an opportunity to do whatever you want, but to serve one another through love. Galatians…

  • Day 7: Desires

Do not get upset because of evildoers. Do not be envious of wrongdoers. They will wither quickly like the grass and decay like the green plants. Trust in the LORD and do good. You will live safely in the land with success. Delight in the LORD and He will satisfy the desires of your heart.…

  • Day 6: Soul Rest

Come to Me, all who are weary and overburdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. Matthew 11: 28-30 Who doesn’t…

  • Day 5: God’s Fast

You say, “Why have we fasted and You have not been impressed? Why have we been hard on ourselves and You have not even noticed?” I, the LORD, say, “Because you are fasting to please yourselves and even while you are fasting, you oppress your workers. What good is your fasting if it ends in…

  • Day 4: Pick it Up

A man was by the Bethesda pool who had been ill for thirty-eight years. Jesus, seeing this man lying there and knowing that he had already been in that condition for a long time, said to him, “Do you want to get well?” The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no one to put…

  • Day 3: True Thirst

A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” She said, “How is it that You are asking a Samaritan woman for a drink?” Jesus replied, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is asking for a drink, you would have asked Him and He…

  • Day 2: True Hunger

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. And after He had fasted for forty days and forty nights, He then became hungry. And the tempter came and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” But He…
