HABITS OF JESUS, MARCH 12 – APRIL 4

Daily posts to learn more about how Jesus modeled His life for us. For 21 days leading up to Easter, explore the habits of Jesus that kept Him hungering for His Father and continuing His mission. Even though He was separated from Him on earth and about to be separated in a different way by His death on the cross, He was faithful and believed in His resurrection.

Coming Next: FASTING IN THE BIBLE, APRIL 8 – MAY 29

Posts every Wednesday and Friday to learn about fasting in the Bible. We will review the whole Bible, exploring what happened when fasting was a special focus for the people of Israel, in the Old Testament and the New Testament. Keeping in mind the way that Jesus taught us to fast, we will find new ways for us to enact a spiritual habit of fasting in our modern lives.

Habits of Jesus Day 21: Go

God said to Isaiah, Who will go? And Isaiah said, “I’ll go!”

In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord, high and exalted, sitting on a throne, and the train of His robe was filling the temple. Above Him were worshiping angels, each with six wings: with two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet and with two they were flying. They were calling out to each other, “Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD Almighty. The whole earth is full of His glory.” At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filling with smoke. Then I said, “Woe to me! I am doomed! I am a man of unclean lips and I live among a people of unclean lips. Yet my eyes have seen the King, the LORD Almighty.” Then one of the angels flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he had taken from the altar with tongs. He touched my lips with it and said, “See, this has touched your lips. Your guilt is taken away. Your sins are forgiven.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send? Who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here I am. Send me!” Isaiah 6: 1-8

God said to Jesus, Go! And He came to us. No matter the pain.

Who would have thought God’s saving power would look like this? His Son grew up before God. There was nothing attractive about him, nothing to cause us to take a second look. He was looked down on and passed over, a man who suffered, who knew pain firsthand. It was our sins that did that to Him, that ripped and tore and crushed him! He came to earth, took the punishment, and that made us whole. Through His bruises we get healed. He didn’t say a word. Like a lamb taken to be slaughtered and like a sheep being sheared, He took it all in silence. God’s plan was to deeply prosper through Him. Out of that terrible travail of soul, He saw that it was worth it and was glad He did it. He looked death in the face and didn’t flinch. He embraced the company of the lowest. He took on his own shoulders the sins of the many, He took up the cause of all the black sheep. From Isaiah 53, MSG

Now Jesus, in His last words, says to us, Go!

The eleven disciples proceeded to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated to them. And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him, but some were doubtful. And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to follow all that I commanded you, and behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28: 16-20

Where is God asking you to go in this season of your life?

What will you say?

Eternal Lord, I will go. I will go wherever You lead me. I will listen for Your command. I recognize Your authority. I know that You will go with me. Amen.
