30 DAY FAST, SEPTEMBER 1 – SEPTEMBER 30 (Join any time, see how to prepare below.)

Early morning posts every day: 30 days of fasting does not mean you do not eat for 30 days! A fast can be many things. Normally it is a plan to deny yourself some kind of food or something that is habitual. You want the lack of it to be noticed regularly by your body and your mind. And you want to experience a sort of hunger for it. It can be a good thing or a bad thing. A fast, by design, will turn your thoughts toward God when the moment comes that you say No. These posts will help you prepare and focus on how He will spiritually provide what you need, in the moment and beyond.

Evening posts every day: Personal posts from me that share my own daily experience of fasting, encourage tasting the sweetness of our Lord before sleep, and prepare us for an ever deeper renewal in the morning.

Marks of a Disciple 7: Compassion

If a disciple exhibits the first two marks of a disciple: spirituality and humility; he will be compelled to do something with that. A disciple is not only called to go but to go out. There are many opportunities for us to go, and the key mark of a successful mission or ministry is our…

  • Marks of a Disciple 3: Humility

Marks of a Disciple 3: Humility

“Humility, the place of entire dependence on God, is, from the very nature of things, the first duty and the highest virtue of the creature, and the root of every virtue.” Michael J. Gorman With humility consider one another as more important than yourselves, not looking out for your own interests, but for the interests…

  • Fast Day 5: Don’t Fast Like This

Fast Day 5: Don’t Fast Like This

Isaiah 58 outlines the kind of fast or response that God wants from us. He doesn’t want what the Israelites had been giving Him: a stolid, pious, self-righteous, cold, calculating, look-at-me, tit-for-tat, complaining, religious attitude. You say, “Why have we fasted and You have not been impressed? Why have we been hard on ourselves and…

Hunger for the Harvest Day 10: Humility

The role of a farmer is one of total dependence upon God for the sun and the rain and the growth of the seeds he plants. But this can be a humbling experience for us when we plant seeds for God on our knees in prayer. We hardly ever see the full fruit of what…

  • Hunger for the Harvest Day 9: Humility and Love

Hunger for the Harvest Day 9: Humility and Love

Be humble, like Christ. Therefore if there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty…

  • Hunger for the Harvest Day 1: A Spiritual Habit of Fasting

Hunger for the Harvest Day 1: A Spiritual Habit of Fasting

My post-COVID-19 journey led me to stop, as it did so many others, and God led me to meditate on Isaiah 58. It initiated an intimate dialogue with God about fasting and how this spiritual habit adds to His kingdom and His harvest (Matthew 9:37-38)! Let’s dig into this passage together and my hope is…

Fasting in the Bible Day 7: Isaiah Part 1

God says to Isaiah, “Announce this out loud and do not hold back. Raise your voice like a trumpet, and declare to My people their wrongdoing. Uncover the sins of these people of Jacob. They pretend to seek Me every day and desire to know My ways. Just like a nation that is righteous and does not forsake the…
